Q & A with Caitie Nelson!

What is your role at ILLUME?
I am a research analyst and have been with ILLUME for almost two years; I love working here because I am constantly learning new things.

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I am from the Chicago suburbs and somehow made my way up to Madison, WI. I went to college in the South and wanted to stay down there after graduating, but somehow I ended up further north than where I started.

Who or what inspires you in your work?
People who rely on me to do a good job. Learning new things also excites me, so when I get to analyze data in a different way, I really enjoy it.

Do you have any pets?
I have the cutest Australian Shepherd I have ever seen! He didn’t grow full size for some reason, so he is 35lbs when he should be around 60, which makes him even cuter.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I run quite a bit; I’ve ran a couple half marathons and one full marathon. I also enjoy watching college football (war eagle).

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
Debt collecting for a mechanical tool company’s loan program: absolutely terrible. I had to call mechanics all day and usually get yelled at in return. I left there to come work for ILLUME, and I am so grateful I am no longer getting screamed at over the phone.

What is the best concert you ever attended?
Eminem, hands down. I love Eminem. Second would be the Revivalists and third would be Twenty-One Pilots. I’ve been to my fair share of concerts and some of the best ones are openers for bigger acts. I discovered Twenty-One Pilots a few years ago as an opening act. When I saw them later as a headliner, Judah and the Lion was their opener and now they are one of my favorite bands, too.

If you could have chosen another career path, what would you be doing?
A cheese expert. You get to taste a bunch of good cheese and get paid for it. What could be better than that?!
